Uploading and Event to UltraMoments.com
Uploading an event to UltraMoments.com

Before you upload your first event, you might want check out the Tips Section at the bottom of the page for notes on resizing images, file naming, pop-up windows, etc.

Visit UltraMoments.com and login by clicking on the Photographer Login button.

Fill in the Username and Password provided to you by Ultra Color when you set up your UltraMoments account. Not that the username and password is different than the one you use for ordering through ROES.

Once logged in, you will be directed to the View Events page, which lists all of the events you have hosted on UltraMoments.

Click on the Add Event link to add your new event.

You will be asked to fill out some information about the event, including the Event's name, Date, Expiration, optional Password, Pricing, and a greeting message for visitors. In this example, we are using Rosen-Sacks Wedding as the name of the event. A client could find their event by going to UltraMoments.com and searching on "Rosen", "Sacks", or "Rosen-Sacks". If their name was a very common one, they could restrict the search further using the wedding date.

When entering the date you can either type it in the the format MM/DD/YYY, or click on the [...] link on the right to bring up a calendar.

When you have completed filling out the information, click the Add Event and Upload Now button.

Depending on your operating system, web browser, and security settings, you may see one or more of the following screens as the the Java-based image uploading applet loads.

Because the file uploading utility needs to create thumbnails and save them to your computer temporarily, you may also receive an alert that the applet is requesting unrestricted access to your computer. Click Allow.

When the uploading utility finishes loading, it will display a screen on which you can select files on your computer on the left. It usually defaults to showing you the items on your desktop. Use this screen to navigate to your folder of images from the event.

If you need to switch to a different hard drive, click on the pop-up menu near to the top left.

Navigate to the folder full of images. In this example, the images are in a folder called "Rosen-Sacks" on the Desktop.

Select images to upload by moving them into the Upload Cart using the arrows on the middle of the screen.

The single right pointing arrow... will move the selected file into the upload cart.

The double right pointing arrow... will move all the files in the current folder into the upload cart.

If a lot of images are added at once, you may get a progress box until the process finishes.

If you accidentally moved an unwanted file to the upload cart, it can be removed using the single left pointing arrow.

Similarly, the double left pointing arrow will move ALL the files out of the upload cart.

Keep adding images until all the images for the event are in the upload carts.

Then click the Upload button

A progress window appears as the utility creates thumbnails of the photos. Don't be alarmed if there seem to be too many thumbnails as two different size thumbnails are created for each photo. If the photos are large and/or there are a lot of images, this step may take some time.

After the thumbnails are created, they are packaged into a single file to transfer.

The thumbnails are then sent over the Internet from your computer to the UltraMoments site. A progress window estimates how long the transfer will take.

Once the transfer is complete, you are notified that the event was uploaded successfully and the list of events is displayed again.

Your event is online and publicly accessible at this point.

Setting Categories

To make viewing the event more enjoyable for your clients, you may want to sort your images into categories and/or make a slideshow at this point. To do this, click the Edit button for the event you just uploaded.

The first page of thumbnails from your event is displayed.

You may notice that every image is listed as Uncategorized.

You can give it a Category by clicking on the pop-up menu under the image and changing the Category. In this case it's been changed to Getting Ready.

Of course, if you have a dozens or hundreds of images, it would take a long time to change each image's Category one at a time. To speed things up, UltraMoments allows you to change the Category of all the images on a page at once. To do this, locate the Category setting near the top left of the page, change it to the appropriate Category and click the Set Page button.

You will now see that all the images on the page will show the Getting Ready Category (or other Category you chose.)

But the new Category settings aren't actually saved until you press the Save Options button.

To set multiple categories for a large event, the best practice is to go to each page of the event's thumbnails and set the entire page at once. If the page has more than one Category of images on it, begin by setting the entire page to the Category with the majority of images on the page. Then set the Category of the other images individually. Don't forget to click the Save Options button before going to the next page.

If you want to add new Category Names or remove existing ones, just click the Photo Categories link in the menu.

Creating a Slide Show

You can also create a slideshow of your favorite images or all the images from the event. To add individual images to the Slide Show, simply click the Add to Slide Show checkbox under each image. Don't forget to click the Save Options button before leaving the page.

You can also add all the images on a page to the Slide Show. To do this, locate the Add to Slide Show setting near the top left of the page, click the checkbox then click it's Set Page button.

To add every image from the entire event to the Slide Show, just click this control's Set All button.

Again, don't forget to click the Save Options button before after adding images to the Slide Show.

Tips on successfully creating events in UltraMoments

Here are some tips for successfully uploading events to UltraMoments.com.

Make sure your images are all rotated correctly.

Modern digital cameras can sense when you are taking a vertical photo. They will save your vertically shot image horizontally but embed a note in the photo that tells your image processing software "Hey, rotate this photo when you open it!" UltraMoments can not take advantage of those notes.

If you find that your vertical images are uploading as Horizontals, open and re-save them using your image processing software (Photoshop, Lightroom, etc.).

Consider Resizing your images first.

UltraMoments does not store the full high-res versions of your images, as that would take too long to upload and be too slow for visitors to your event. During the upload process, UltraMoments will resize your images to create thumbnails. If you want to speed up the process, it is a good idea to resize your images yourself using Lightroom, Image Processor in Bridge and Photoshop, or whatever your standard photo editing program is.

Another benefit of using a third party program to resize your images before uploading is that such programs often produce better looking low-res files than the built-in resizing algorithms in UltraMoments.

When you resize your images, make them 1000 pixels on the longest side. Without going into detail about how to use these programs, here are a couple sample settings:

Adobe Bridge/Photoshop's Image Processor:

Adobe Lightroom's Export function:

Pop Up Windows

We've all had the experience of going to a web site and suddenly having an unexpected and unwanted advertising window (or two, or more!) pop up on the screen. To combat this form of spam, companies have put pop-up blockers into their web browsers. Usually these pop-up blockers are good at telling when a new window is wanted, but sometimes they can prevent you from accessing desired information.

Some features of UltraMoments , such as the Compare Images tool and the Slide Show and Print Orders rely on opening a new window. If they are not working, you likely have a pop-up blocker turned on.

Turning Off Pop-ups in Safari:
1.      Open Safari
2. From the Safari Menu choose "Block Pop-up Windows" so that it is unchecked.

Turning Off Pop-ups in Windows Internet Explorer:
1.      Open an Internet Explorer window
2.      Click “Tools” (on the upper menu)
3.      Choose “Internet Options”
4.      Select the “Privacy” tab
5.      Click the “Settings” button (see the picture below)

Here you have a couple of choices. You can either simply uncheck "Block pop-ups", or tell Internet Explorer to allow pop-ups from just Ultramoments by continuing with the instructions below.

6.      In the box for “Address for Web Site to Allow” write “ultramoments.com”
7.      Click the “Add” button (see the picture below)
8.      Click “Apply” and “OK”
9.      Now close out of Internet Explorer and reload ultramoments.com

On the PC, there are also web browser add-ons such as the, Google or Yahoo toolbars, that prevent pop-up windows.

Turning Off Pop-ups in the Google toolbar:

If you are using Internet Explorer with the Google toolbar, make sure that the Google Toolbar says "Site pop-ups allowed" when you are on the UltraMoments page. If it doesn't

If you try to compare images or view an order that would open a pop-up window, and you see the icon, there is a Google pop-up blocker installed in your browser. This pop-up blocker is part of a menu bar:

There are two ways to remove this:

A) Set the pop-up blocker to allow pop-up windows to open (pop through) from this page only.

1.      While on the page where you want to be able to access popups, click the Blocked button.

2.      Confirm that the button label has now changed to:

3.      Try reopening the page to confirm that it can be displayed.

B) Turn off the Google pop-up blocker for all pages.

1.      Click to open the Settings menu.

2.      Click to open the Google Toolbar Options window.

3.      From the Popup Blocker section of the "More" tab, de-select the "Enable Pop-up Blocker" checkbox.

5.      Click OK to close the dialog box.

Turning Off Pop-ups in the Yahoo toolbar:

If you are using Internet Explorer with the Yahoo toolbar, make sure that the Yahoo toolbar shows the pop-up allowed icon when you are on the UltraMoments page. The icon circled below means that the pop-up blocker is off.

If instead the toolbar shows the pop-up blocker on icon (with the shield)...

1.      Click on the icon and a menu will drop down.

2.      Uncheck "Enable Pop-Up Blocker".

3.      Try reopening the page to confirm that it can be displayed.

Java Issues

Java is a programming environment developed by Sun Microsystems that is commonly used on the web because it allows programs to work on Windows, Macintosh, and UNIX computers. If you experience difficulties in using the UltraMoments.com site, it may be because you don't have a current version of Java installed on your computer. If you are on a PC, you can download the latest version on Java at www.java.com.

On Macintosh computers, Java is provided by Apple as part of it's Mac OS. For a smooth experience using UltraMoments, we recommend using Mac OS X v10.5 "Leopard" or later. Apple's Software Update utility will automatically download and install new versions of Java as Apple releases them.

Internet Explorer? Firefox? Safari?

To access the web most people use the web browser program that came pre-installed on their computer. On Windows PCs that would be Internet Explorer. On the Macintosh it would be Safari. UltraMoments generally works fine with both of these web browsers. But there are times when a web browser may have become modified in such a way that it no longer works well with UltraMoments.

If this happens, it may be worth trying a different browser. There are a number of free web browsers available, but by far the most popular is FireFox. It has gained a reputation of being faster and less prone to security risks than Microsoft's Internet Explorer. There are versions of Firefox available for both PCs and Macs.

If you find that your Internet Explorer or Safari web browser isn't playing well with UltraMoments (or any other Web site, really) try it again using Firefox. Who knows, it could become your web browser of choice.
